Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree essential oil is extracted from the leaves and branchlets of Melaleuca species, through the process of steam distillation. Tea tree oil is a generic name, and is variously used for the essential oil derived from the several melaleuca species. The oil is a colourless to pale yellow, clear mobile liquid which has a sharp camphoraceous odour followed by a menthol-like cooling sensation. The active component(s) in a typical oil sample are Methyl eugenol (up to 96%), p-Mentha-2,8-diene-1-ol (0.9%), Methyl cinnamate (0.7%), Germacrene D (0.7%), and Terpinolene, Linalool, α-phellendrene and others.
